The old method (20 yrs or so ago) for isolating L. pneumophila was
inoculation into guinea pigs. I wrote out a media recipe card for guinea pig
agar for a student and sent him off to find the ingredients one of which was
guinea pig tongues.
On the subject of guinea pigs.
Someone left a note on the door saying "Kill the GPs".
The lab director took great offense to this because he thought it was
general practitioners
