AIDS Origin- looking for critique

I am a data communications software engineer, also a gay activist
(not representing a group). I have essentially no background in microbiology,
but am trying to sort out a wide variety of provocative and confusing claims
about the origins of AIDS (having read Leonard Horowitz, Don Cantwell, etc).
I know that this is an annoying subject matter to many, but it should be
enough why the question of great personal and emotional significance to a
member of a hard-hit minority. Some of the claims that I hear may be clever
propaganda, or they may be fast-buck sensationalism, or they may be genuine
suppressed truths. As a layman, I can hardly be held accountable for not being
able to tell, so please save the flames and hate mail.
Some of the claims seem quite convincing, and I am on a personal crusade
to see that the issues get analyzed and discussed in more detail than is
I wish to discuss the claims in depth, and will be looking for a level of
critique on this newsgroup which is hopefully more informed than what I am
likely to get elsewhere.
Anyone having the patience to be a mentor, or looking for a liason to the gay
community on the question, please let me know. I will be posting a series
of articles, my own questions and thoughts, and various things that I have
read, looking for any intelligent commentary.
I am aware that intelligent and dignified commentary is a great rarity on
newsgroups, even the technical ones. Please consider the potentials for
damaging rage in the black community, AIDS community, gay community,
