Questions about evolution (from a candid computer scientist)

Hi,

I am a computer scientist working on Genetic Algorithms.

I have some (candid) questions to ask about the real staff (real evolution):

1 - I would like a confirmation that Cross-over is a mechanism which exists
when there is sexual reproduction and only then.

2 - I suspect that the average duration of life got much longer when sexual
reproduction appeared, is that conjecture true?

3 - what mechanisms do exist, for species with no sexual reproduction, to
exchange genetic information between individuals?

Thanks in advance for your answers.
