John-
One recent paper which lists some PCR primers
for the 16S region of archea bacteria is "An
intron within the 16S ribosomal RNA gene of the
archaeon..." by Woese et al. It is from Proc.
Natl. Acad. Sci. USA Vol 90 pp2547-2550, March
1993. It also gives a number of references.
The paper I found the most helpful in designing
primers(both for PCR and sequencing) is
"Compilation of small ribosomal subunit RNA
Sequences" by Neefs, Van de Peer, Hendricks and
Wachter. It is from "Nucleic Acids Research",
Vol 18, Supplement p2237-2316. It is a library
of subunit sequences and has enough info to
design primers for the 16S region any kind of
bacteria.
