Postdoctoral Research Opportunities in the
Molecular Evolution of Genes and Proteins

at
The Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR)
Department of Genome Informatics,
Laboratory of Molecular Systematics
TIGR is accepting applications for postdoctoral research
associates in the Department of Genome Informatics to
assist in compiling and curating multiple sequence alignments for gene
and protein families. The alignments will be an integral part
of predicting the structure/function of newly discovered genes through comparative
sequence analysis. Sequence alignments will be made available to the scientific
community in the form of a publically accessible database now under
development at TIGR.
Responsibilities include searching existing databases for
members of different gene families, creating and maintaining multiple
sequence alignments, gathering information about gene families
from relevant scientific literature, and working with
programmers to develop sequence analysis tools for
manipulating and analyzing nucleotide and amino acid
sequence data.
The ideal candidate will be a computer literate biologist or
biochemist with some experience in molecular biology/genetics,
comparative sequence analysis, and familiarity with different multiple
sequence alignment algorithms.
TIGR is a new, not-for-profit research center devoted to
accelerating the sequencing, mapping and functional characterization
of human, animal, and plant genomes. The Institute is located in the
Washington DC/Baltimore metropolitan area and offers a competitive
compensation and benefits package.
Qualified appliants are encouraged to send a curriculum vitae
