With reference to the question on the bacilli/purple bacteria and their most
recent common ancestor, I'd also like to know of any papers on these divergence
times. The only paper I know that has estimated divergence times for bacteria
is one that I came across two days ago. Trends in ecology and evolution (TREE)
January 1994 where they could estimate the times of speciation events of
Buchnera aphidicola (an aphid symbiont) from fossil evidence of the host...
I digress.
If anybody has any other references for divergence times of prokaryotes could
they please email me too......
