A wise teacher of mine once told me that Darwin, like Newton
and Freud told no untruths; my teacher reminded me that the
best I could hope for (for myself) was to elucidate and
perhaps to modify, in some small way, their elegant theories.
In a way, my teacher was telling me that I should examine
my own motives for wanting to overthrow my intellectual predecessors.
I still believe that my teacher was very wise.
