I'm interested in finding a pair of primers that would recognize
conserved regions in the rRNA genes in the mitochondrial, chloroplast and
nuclear genomes of higher and lower plants. The idea would be to use
these primers to PCR amplify a product that would have a different size
depending on whether that product came from the nuclear, chloroplast or
mitochondrial DNA. This could be used as an indirect measure of the
amount of contamination of prepared nuclear DNA by that from the
organelles. Any references would be appreciated.
