Professor and Chair of Biology
The Department of Biology at the University of South Florida (USF) seeks
an internationally recognized scholar to fill the position of Department
Chair, to begin in August, 1998. Appointment as Chair is a twelve month
appointment for a four year renewable term; the successful applicant
will be eligible for tenure. USF is a large and dynamic institution,
with 5 campuses and 35,000 students, that is located in the vibrant,
multi-cultural Tampa Bay region. USF is a Carnegie Institute Research
Level Two Institution which, together with affiliated institutions,
offers extensive opportunities for collaborations in basic and applied
research. The Department consists of 32 faculty members, 3 full time
instructors, 1800 undergraduate majors and over 100 graduate students
pursuing master's or Ph. D. degrees. Department faculty are active in
attracting extramural research funding. We seek an individual who will
provide academic and administrative leadership to this broad and diverse
department. Candidates must have an earned doctorate in one of the
biological sciences, an outstanding record of extramurally funded
research, and extensive teaching experience at the undergraduate and
graduate level. Administrative experience is preferred. To apply,
