		    Computer Specialist (Systems Manager)

	The Laboratory of Molecular Systematics (LMS) of the National
Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, seeks a highly skilled
individual to manage our computer systems.  The position will include the
following responsibilities:

*	System administration for a multiprocessor Unix server, associated
networked Unix workstations, and and AppleShare file server (including
network management; hardware and software specification, purchasing, and
installation; backups; maintenance of user accounts; and backups).

* Technical support for researchers and other LMS staff (on use of standard
system software, peripherals, etc.)

	A detailed knowledge of Unix system administration is required, as
is extensive experience with either the Macintosh operating system or
DOS/Windows (preferably both).  Ability and willingness to communicate
clearly and patiently with users of varied computer backgrounds and
experience is essential.

Starting salary range $38,330 - 45,939.  For more information about the
