MANAGER, BIOCHEMISTRY LABORATORIES
FIELD MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY
The Field Museum of Natural History invites applications for a Staff
Scientist to function as Manager of its Biochemistry Laboratories, a core
facility used by Museum curatorial staff for research in molecular
evolution. Applicants will have an advanced degree in molecular evolution
or an allied field. MS required, Ph.D. and experience in molecular
evolution preferred. The applicant must have extensive practical
experience with various molecular techniques, including PCR, DNA sequencing
and cloning. The successful applicant will manage and run the core
facility to support the molecular research needs for the Field Museum,
which is a highly interactive group of about 40 scientists (curators,
postdoctoral research associates, technicians and graduate students).
Responsibilities include ensuring laboratory safety, ordering chemicals and
supplies, maintaining inventories, managing budgets, invoicing projects,
coordinating equipment and repair, overseeing lab use, and mediating
personnel issues. The Manager will also train new personnel and students
in current lab procedures and will be expected to apply new molecular
technologies as they arise. There is also potential for conducting
research in evolutionary or ecological biology. Salary is dependent on
