                        Postdoctoral Research Position

                   University of Massachusetts at Amherst

A postdoctoral research position for a highly motivated individual
is available starting September 1998 at the University of Massachusetts at
Amherst. The position, available for up to three years, has a starting
salary of $25,000/year. The individual chosen will conduct collaborative
research on molecular evolution and systematics and will be responsible for
maintaining and facilitating access to an ABI 377 automated sequencer based
in the laboratory. Potential topics for research include: higher-level
molecular systematics of placental mammals, functional/molecular evolution
of the albumin/alpha-fetoprotein/vitamin D binding protein family, and
molecular evolution of venom/anti-venom proteins. Experience operating an
ABI 377 is essential, and a strong background in both theoretical and
experimental molecular evolution and systematics is strongly preferred.
Applications will be considered continuously until an appointment is made.
Interested individuals should send a CV, relevant publications, a statement
of past and future research interests and contact information (name,
address, phone, e-mail) for up to three references to:
