POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH IN STATISTICAL GENETICS

This BBSRC-funded project involves a collaboration with a Medical
Genetics team at Guy's Hospital, London. The successful applicant will
work with David Balding and John Whittaker to develop coalescent-based
statistical methods for analysing the human X-chromosome haplotype
data generated by the Guy's team, and similar data generated
elsewhere. The goal of the project is to improve understanding of the
mutation and recombination processes, and hence refine methods for
locating disease genes, as well as provide insights into the history
of human populations. The postholder will form part of a co-operative
research group consisting of about a dozen researchers, working on a
range of applications of statistics to molecular biology (see:
http://www.rdg.ac.uk/~sns98gm/sghome.html)

Applicants should have a PhD in statistics, genetics, or related
discipline. The post is available as soon as convenient and funding is
available for approximately 2.5 years. Salary range: 15,735 to 20,107
pounds.

Closing date for applications is 26 May 1999. Please quote reference
