Seeing as the entry level G4s - 400 MHz ('PCI') - are supposed to be
coming in at ~ GBP 1,060 ex VAT, then why not go for one of those? The
450 and 500 MHz ('AGP') will be great for intensive graphics work, but
will cost a LOT more. I should imagine the 400 will be your best bet, in
the cost vs performance vs intended use stakes.
I think this argument will hold even if the apps you want to use do not
use the FPU set. Try asking on uk.comp.sys.mac - smaller volume and
friendlier than the comp.sys.* froups.
