RESEARCH ASSISTANT - MOLECULAR HELMINTHOLOGY/PARASITOLOGY - 5 YEARS
We require a colleague to provide core technical support on a
Wellcome Trust funded project on the evolution of platyhelminths
(flatworms) and their genes. Research involves sequencing recognized
(mitochondrial and nuclear) and novel genes for phylogenetic
purposes, and for determining the molecular evolutionary responses to
parasitism. The post is available from January 2001, or sooner under
exceptional circumstances for up to 5 years.
The ideal candidate will have skills in:
a. standard molecular biology techniques; in particular gene
amplification/sequencing/cloning skills
b. long PCR, cloning large fragments
c. 'mining' GenBank and basic bioinformatics
d. troubleshooting
