POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

The Marine Biological Laboratory is seeking applicants for a 
full-time Research Assistant I/ II or Postdoctoral Scientist in the 
Josephine Bay Paul Center in Comparative Molecular Biology and 
Evolution (www.mbl.edu/baypaul).

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for the computational aspects of the ongoing Giardia 
lamblia Genome Project (www.mbl.edu/Giardia), with emphasis on 
streamlining the data pipeline, construction of interactive web 
databases, and adapting existing bioinformatics tools (e.g. TIGR 
assembler) to work with the Giardia genomic data.

Responsibilities will also include development of new bioinformatics 
tools in close collaboration with the genome sequencing team and new 
Giardia lamblia Gene Expression Project.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

A BA/BS in appropriate field of science or computer science. Must be 
a skilled programmer and be familiar with as many of the following as 
possible: UNIX, Perl, C shell, Bourne shell, HTML, XML, mySQL, PHP. 
Additional work experience with computational biology or 
bioinformatics, particularly in regards to genomics and 
phylogenetics, is very desirable. Must work well within a close-knit 
team.
