Postdoctoral Position
Molecular Systematics of Murid Rodents
As part of a collaborative project with Dr. Scott Steppan of
Florida State University, I am seeking to hire a postdoctoral fellow
to study the molecular systematics of the rodent family Muridae.
This is the largest family of mammals (~1/4 of all living mammals),
has a worldwide distribution, and includes several species and clades
of great importance to biomedical research, ecology, molecular
evolution, and biogeography. The principal responsibilities of the
fellow will include: sequencing select nuclear exons and introns in a
large sampling of murid rodents, performing computational analyses of
phylogeny, molecular evolution, and divergence times, and preparing
results for publication and presentation at scientific meetings.
My laboratory is part of the new Center of Excellence in
Genomics and Bioinformatics at the University of Tennessee - Memphis
and is housed in the Children's Foundation Research Center (Le
Bonheur Children's Hospital). The person hired will have excellent
opportunities to interact with individuals utilizing the latest
techniques and tools of molecular research.
Please send a cover letter indicating the position (Molecular
Systematics of Murid Rodents), current CV, and contact information
for three references to radkins1 at utmem.edu.
Qualifications: Ph.D. granted by time of employment (required),
experience with DNA sequencing and phylogenetic analysis (preferred)
Duration: 2 years, longer depending on continued NSF funding
Start Date: Earliest possible date
Salary: $26,500 plus health insurance
