The MRC are running a training course 'Phylogeny Essentials' at
Cambridge University, Cambridge, UK

The aim of this course is to introduce Molecular Biologists to some of
the more advanced methods of constructing phylogenetic trees from
nucleic acid and protein sequence data. The three main classes of
phylogenetic tree construction method are covered: Maximum likelihood,
Distance Matrix, and Parsimony.

The course provides enough background theory from molecular evolution
and statistics so as to allow scientists to choose methods and software
appropriate to their research. However, the course also aims to provide
practical advice in the use of currently available software for
phylogenetic tree construction. Some familiarity with sequence analysis
and computing is assumed. Participants are encouraged to bring their
own multiple alignments for phylogenetic analysis.
