I remember trying to explain to my mother what I worked on. She had left
school when she was 14 and I tried to frame it in terms of inheritence; she
paused and said: "like when uncle Jim died and we inherited his piano".
I hesitated and just said yes. It was a kind of inheritence of acquired
wealth.
