Fungi fd. 15 March 2003, Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon

Laccaria purpurea-badia
Coprinus atramentarius
Hypholoma fasciculare
Gymnopilus sapineus (? growing on acorn husks)

The last species may well be incorrectly identified. It was growing in
abundance (several hundred specimens, all less than 1.5 inches in
diameter and about 1 inch tall, near the base of Quercus pallustra,
which is an ornament tree in this area). The material may well have
been fruiting on acorn husks. It also resembles a Laccaria and
Collybia. The cap can have two or more zones in age while dehydrating,
and changes color from red to vermillion to nearly ash-white in
extreme age. This is the first year I have noticed it fruiting.
