Q: "Diffused" MRI definition

I suppose that this refers to "diffusion weighted MRI".
This is a technique in which the diffusion coefficient
is measured by taking a normal MR image and an image
with special magnetic field gradients applied in order
to selectively reduce the image intensity where the
diffusion is largest.  By taking the negative of
the logarithm of the ratio of these two images, it is
possible to create an image of the (apparent) diffusion
coefficient D.

Applications: D increases in the region around an infarct
within a few hours of a stroke.  This is an (as yet experimental)
method for estimating the region of brain affected by a stroke.
