Speeded-Up Neural Activity

In the bat research community, there is a theory that the bat is able to
transform events in the inner ear that occur at microsecond time
differences into events in auditory processing that occur at millisecond
time differences. I've also seen some speculation that the sharp waves
seen in the hippocampus are speeded-up theta waves being replayed. Has
anyone come up with evidence or a reasonable mechanism for this?
