Reminds me of the story of the engineer and the scientist who both ended
up in Hades. Their punishment was that they were each 1000 feet from a
beautiful girl; each day they were allowed to traverse one half the
remaining distance. The scientist sullenly stayed in place, while the
engineer enthusiastically took half the distance each day. After the
first day, the scientist called to the engineer, "Stupid engineer. Don't
you realise you'll never get there?" The engineer replied, "Stupid
scientist, after a couple weeks I'll certainly be close enough!"
