Ideology drives White House agenda on security
Sunday, March 28, 2004

By MAUREEN DOWD
SYNDICATED COLUMNIST"

Quoting from The =New York Times= Column:

"It's always gross to see a White House
stoop to smearing the character of
someone seen as a threat. It was sickening
when the Clinton White House smeared Monica
Lewinsky, and it's sickening now."

Kerry calls on Rice to testify

By NEDRA PICKLER
ASSOCIATED PRESS WRITER"

Quoting from the =Associated Press= Article:

"The White House has said that presidential
staff advisers, such as Rice, cannot testify
publicly before congressional bodies. The
bipartisan, independent commission was created
in 2002 by congressional legislation and Bush's
signature.

[...]

"Kerry said the constitutional separation
of powers could be protected despite the
White House's objections.

`Certainly we can find a way to respect
executive privilege, not to have it be an
opening to the door, but nevertheless to
accomplish America's needs to protect the
security of our country,' he said.

[...]

O'Neill was fired as Treasury secretary
in December 2002 after publicly questioning
the need for additional tax cuts, a core
campaign issue for Bush. Foster said he
was prohibited by his superiors from
sharing with Congress a much higher but
more accurate cost estimate for the
administration's Medicare program."

Rice rejects calls for public testimony

By PETE YOST
ASSOCIATED PRESS WRITER"

Quoting from the =Associated Press= Article:

"Rice declared Sunday night that `nothing
would be better, from my point of view,
than to be able to testify' to the commis-
sion. But, she added, `there is an import-
ant principle involved here: It is a long-
standing principle that sitting national
security advisers do not testify before
the Congress.' She has appeared before
panel members in closed session.

[...]

Rice said `the war on terrorism is well
served by the victory in Iraq.'

[...]

Powell criticized Clarke, saying, `I think
Dr. Rice is getting a bit of a bum rap. It's
been set up as, I told her everything we
needed to do and she ignored it all. That's
not accurate. Condi was on this from the
very beginning. She took action.'

[Clarke] said he has to take into account
the fact that his enemies are saying `Dick
Clarke will never make another dime in this
city.'

Clarke said [...] `That's what the White
House wants me to do. They want to say I'm
part of the Kerry campaign.'"

============ Analysis ===========

It's my Analysis that what's whppening is
=nothing= other than 'political' in-fighting that,
to the degree of such, Forsakes the Citizenry.

I expct that Dr. Rice will, eventually, Testify
before the Commission, and that her Testimony
will be 'timed' for 'political-effect'.

My Analysis is that it's a Cover-up that puts
'politics' before the Citizenry, and which 'moves
away from' Truth.

Quoting from the =Seattle Post-Intelligencer Column:

"`I will fight terror with books, not bombs,'
he says.

[...]

"`I just need a couple of cruise missiles,'
he says, `and I can educate thousands of
children. ... you can liberate hundreds
of children through education.'"

Hmmmm.... where'd I hear that before?
