Thanks for your reply, Bill!
I just realised that i was not vey clear in my post. Of course there
are several commercial software solutions but I was rather interested
in open source programs.

So far i found and tested.
-  micromanager
-  WinFluor

Even though both programs look good (especially the micro-manager) and
work very well, i found them to have some specific restrictions, that
leaves them unsuitable for the experiments i have in mind.
