VIII INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON PHOTOTROPHIC PROKARYOTES
               Urbino, Italy, September 10-15, 1994

=================================================================
                        FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT
=================================================================

SCOPE
The International Symposia on Phototrophic Prokaryotes are
arranged every third year under the auspices of the Federation of
the European Societies of Microbiology. The ISPP represents an
essential and consolidated forum for the presentation of new
results and exchange of ideas on fundamental and applied aspects
of phototrophic microorganisms. The VIII Symposium will be held
in URBINO (Pesaro), Italy, from September the 10th to 15th, 1994.
The Organizing Committee takes pleasure in inviting all those
interested to participate in the Conference.
On request, the Committee will send a letter of invitation for
participation in the Conference to any scientist. Such an
invitation is only meant to help participants to obtain travel
funds or a visa, and does not imply any commitment on the part of
the organizers to provide financial support. However, the
Organizing Committee is applying for funds to lower or waive
accommodation fees for younger scientists.
This preliminary announcement is aimed at determining the number
of investigators interested in attending and participating.
Attendance will be limited to around 500 participants.

LOCATION
The Symposium will be held at the University of Urbino (Faculty
of Magistero), in the centre of the town. The town, gathered as
it is round the Ducal Palace (XV century) and the Cathedral (XI
century), keeps intact its magnificent architecture, one of the
highest examples of the Italian Renaissance.

ACCOMMODATION
The University of Urbino has excellent facilities. All
participants will be accommodated in single/double bed rooms with
bath/shower situated at the University Campus.

SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMME
The scientific programme will consist of morning lecture
sessions, afternoon parallel sessions and poster viewing. The
Symposium will start with Registration and Welcome Reception on
Sunday afternoon. The scientific programme will be completed on
Friday at lunch time.
Below is a tentative list of the major topics to be covered by
invited session lectures, shorter oral talks (parallel sessions),
and posters:
