Florigene Ltd is Australia's leading plant biotechnology company and one
of the few in the world specialising in floriculture; last year Florigene
became the first company in the world to bring a genetically-modified
flower to market.  We employ a highly committed team of 30 scientific
staff who have expertise in gene isolation, gene expression and plant
transformation.  The Company is located in Melbourne, Australia.  It has a
well equipped facility for plant transformation and molecular biology
situated close to three major universities.  Melbourne is Australia's
second largest city with a population of 3.5 million.  It is a
cosmopolitan city, enjoys a temperate climate and an attractive
environment suited to a wide range of interests.  Florigene's present
research programs include flower colour modification, extension of vase
life and fungal disease resistance of major cutflower crops.  The
following positions are available within the R&D Group.

Senior Scientists

(1)   Modification of Flower Colour
You will be expected to develop and implement plans for modifying flower
colour by genetically modifying vacuolar pH.  You will have some
supervisory responsibilities in addition to active participation in
experimental research.  You will have a demonstrated ability to provide
scientific leadership in the field of plant biotechnology and a record of
innovation and achievement.  You will have a PhD in either biochemistry or
molecular biology and post-doctoral experience gained in internationally
recognised laboratories.  Experience working in or with industry would be
highly regarded.

(2)   Plant Transformation
As a senior member of an established team you will be expected to provide
leadership and innovation to the company's plant transformation program. 
You will be responsible for meeting ambitious product development
timelines and improving established systems.  You will have experience in
the development of innovative transformation methodology and an
established international reputation.  Experience working in or with
industry would be highly regarded.


(1)   Plant Pathology
You will be expected to develop systems for identifying gene technology
that confers commercially valuable resistance to the plant pathogens
Fusarium oxysporum and Botrytis cinerea.  You will have a PhD in molecular
plant pathology and experience in evaluation of plant responses to fungal

You will be expected to work as a key member of a team developing
molecular strategies for modifying flower colour through optimising petal
transgene expression and manipulation of vacuolar pH.  You will have a
track record of achievement as a molecular biologist and ideally,
experience in the field of plant biotechnology.
