Spider plant question

I definitely don't have a green thumb......
I purchased two house plants about three weeks ago, a spider plant and an
ivy-looking thing called a gold child. Both receive indirect sunlight and
are watered once a week, so that the soil is moist. The gold child looks
great, but the spider doesn't. The tips of the leaves are turning brown
(about 2 inches), and some are completely brown.
Does it need more light or more/less water?
thanks
-Steve
