It seems you do have a thrip problem based on your drawing.  Also, the tiny
brown spots on the leaves is characteristic of thrip feces and the dead
crunchy parts are the feeding scars produced by these insects.

Thrips can be controlled by:
-separating infested plants from pest-free plants
-keeping the soil moist at all times and regularly misting the leaves
-covering the soil with newspaper
-using light blue sticky traps (check your nearest garden center) placed
within 2 feet above the plants
-if all else fails you can use an insecticidal soap or permethrin treatment
