JOB TITLE: Assistant Professor of Molecular Weed Science
JOB DESCRIPTION: Plant molecular biology position with emphasis on
fundamental weed science research and teaching. This is a 9-month tenure
tack position with opportunity for summer appointment. Responsibilities
will be a 70% research and 30% teaching appointment in the Department of
DUTIES: The successful applicant is expected to develop an effective
extramurally-funded weed molecular biology research program that will apply
molecular biology approaches to solve fundamental problems of weed
ecology/biology in agronomic crops. Possible research areas include, but
are not limited to, the development of herbicide resistance in weed
populations, the molecular basis for weed seed dormancy, or the genetic and
physiological factors associated with interplant competition. The
incumbent will actively participate in teaching programs of the department,
including advising undergraduate students and directing graduate student
research. The incumbent will teach one course related to weed science per
academic year and will participate in departmental instruction of
TRAINING: A Ph.D. in plant science or related area is required. The
candidate must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
demonstrated ability to design, conduct and report independent research;
and a clear ability and desire to excel in classroom teaching.
SALARY: Commensurate with training and experience.
STARTING DATE: April 1, 1997, or when a suitable candidate is available.
