POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Faculty Position in Veterinary Parasitology
The Department of Parasitology, College of Veterinary Medicine, The
University of Georgia, invites applications from qualified
individuals for a tenure-track position at the Assisstant Professor
level, which will be available January 1, 1996. The qualified
individual will have either a DVM and PhD or the PhD in Parasitology
or a field closely allied to Veterinary Parasitology. Preference
will be given to candidates with post-Ph.D. experience. The
applicant must be qualified for appointment to the Graduate Faculty
of the University of Georgia. Documented evidence of skills in
molecular parasitology and classical parasitology are prerequisite to
employment. The person will actively engage in all facets of the
teaching, research, and service programs of the Department. Assigned
duties are approximately 50% teaching and 50% research, although the
time commitment for each is negotiable. The service commitment
ordinarily will be fulfilled by way of communication with practicing
veterinarians and the general public. Demonstrated achievement
and/or strong potential for fundable research from extramural sources
is a requirement, and previous experience in teaching at the
collegiate level is desirable. Teaching duties will include serving
as supervisor for masters and doctoral students as as a committee
member for graduate students. The individual will teach one or more
graduate-level courses based on his/her expertise in classical
parasitology (Parasitic Protozoa, Helminthology), participate in
teaching a graduate-level course in Experimental Methods in
Parasitology, and develop a new course(s) in Molecular Parasitology
for graduate students. Participation in the teaching program
(Veterinary Parasitology I and II) for second-year veterinary
students is expected. The person will collaborate with other faculty
and students within the Department of Parasitology as well as other
faculty within the College of Veterinary Medicine and serve on
departmental, college, and university-wide committees. Salary is
commensurate with qualifications. Interested individuals are invited
