White Mutant Axolotls

Three years ago we purchased what we thought were a breeeding pair of 
white mutant axolotls. Ha ha they both turned out to be males. In an 
effort to get white mutants anyway we bred them to some wild types and 
recently we got spawnings from their descendants. My question is, since 
this is a recessive trait, we should be seeing white mutants but how do 
you tell at the early stages and when does it become apparent that the 
spawning has white mutants?
