Hi! I am a senior scientist, I suppose, by your definition. I find
that I am in the most productive time of my life since I became 50,
and the very, very, veryfew women whom I admired as role models had
similar improving careers as they became middle aged. I am interested
to see that we women readily accept men's measures of what makes a
good career, e.g. numbers of publications, how many dollars etc.. I
managed to do those things to the satisfaction of my male colleagues
through the years; but my greatest personal satisfaction has come from
certain other accomplishments that I rarely discuss. For example,
every now and then I have written a well written paper, not just a
publishable one, This cannot happen very often because it takes too
long to write well, but it feels wonderful when you do. I would be
pleased to talk to tohers about patterns and influences in careers.
Most sincerely, Jane H. Bock, Professor, E.P.O. Biology Dept., Box
