William Waldegrave recently announced the establishment of a Committee of Women
in Science, Technology and Engineering (STE), to advise him on how the skills
and expertise of women can best be secured for the benefit of STE.
A report, to identify an Action Plan, will be prepared for the Committee by a
Working Group, chaired by Dr Nancy Lane, by September 1993. The Working Group
(of which I am a member) is collating quantitative information on the present
position of women in STE, and examples of "best practice" in this country and
elsewhere, so as to formulate strategies for improvement.
The Working Group would welcome any information or comments (preferably before
May 21), particularly details on equal opportunities policy and effective
initiatives for promoting the advancement of women in STE, known to readers of
this bulletin board.
Thank you.
