I am sorry I did not do this earlier, and also sorry to be so brief now:
Thanks to all of you who took the time to reply personally to my question of
industry and academia.  In fact I have not read the posting here (or
anywhere else) for almost ten days!  I hope to become an active participant
here as soon as I am done with my present chores and stuff.
