Just a general query in the spirit of the "definition of a scientist"

When did you start thinking of yourself as a scientist? (This is
distinct from the question of when others started labeling you as one.)
Was there a pivotal moment in your career when you said, "ahah, now I'm a
scientist" or was the process more gradual? What made the difference? Are
there gender differences in this self-labeling process?
