Hi Stacey- I am a Graduate Student at George Washington University, doing 
my research at NIH.  I just finished my classwork at GW and am now trying 
to pull a project together.  
My tips include- GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING: Whenever someone tells you 
about class requirements, financial obligations, even hours that you are 
expected to be in the lab- get then to write everything down.  That way 
there are no surprises or misunderstandings.  
Also, talk to other people in your program (when you can) to find out who 
are the effective teachers, and who aren't.  
There's nothing better than a study group for preparing for exams- 
quizzing each other and trying to figure out the types of questions the 
teacher will ask is a great way to see how well you know the material.
And the last thing I will say is talk to the people around you at the 
FDA- When you have a problem in the research, the chances are someone 
else has had a similar problem, and can help guide you in the right 
direction.
