Hi,
I think introductions are a great idea! I've been reading this group on
and off for two years, but didn't start posting until I got a new computer
to replace my 1986 IBM clone with the 300-baud modem.
I'm a postdoctoral fellow at Caltech. I've been working in developmental
neurobiology for both my PhD and postdoc; it was the field I wanted to
pursue when I went to graduate school, and I haven't wanted to change.
Neuroscience has become a huge field: I just got back from our
professional meeting in Washington DC, and there were 24,000 attendees . .
.
I'm interested in alternate careers to the "academic position at a major
research institution," but it's a bit harder to pin down what that might
be for someone like me, who lacks talent and interest in lecturing and
classroom teaching (although I like teaching individual students and small
groups). I've been looking pretty hard at the biotech industry.
At any rate, thanks for getting this thread started!
