Dear Group,
After Sarah Boomer wrote that really excellent and long letter about
Jenn and their adviser-in-common, I wrote her an encouraging letter,
thanking her for doing that. And she replied, saying that she felt her
adviser had also been shafted to some extent and that not one single woman
in their department has gotten tenure, for example. I have often wondered
how this actually happens and still don't understand it....
At any rate, she said she is withdrawing from the newsgroup for a few
days, as Wednesday (tomorrow!) is her defense. I just thought I would
remind people of that, and suggest that maybe we send a little positive
mental energy her way....
The morning of my own defense, I drank two glasses of wine, just to be
able to calm down enough to be able to hold the pointer. And it didn't
even make a DENT in my anxiety!
