I belong to AWIS (when I remember to send in my renewals! sheepish ;-)
which sponsors a newsletter and local chapter activities. They
also sponsor national events, and recently did a study on women in
science with the provocative name of "warming up a chilly climate".
(I hope I remembered that correctly! ) In San
Diego, where the chapter is quite active, activities include mentoring
and science fair programs, and a regular career-in-bioscience
conference every couple of years, as well as other events
including talks and social/networking get-togethers. While I'm
not very active in the group, I think it is a good way for
women scientists to meet and discuss issues of importantce, and
our membership contributes to women scientists
establishing a voice of influence in the profession.
