The question is "Is having a shuttle with an all-female crew, for the
sole purpose of having a shuttle mission with an all female crew, a
good thing?"
> Perhaps, gulp, they are the best PEOPLE for the job?????
Right, but when the job is acting as a token for NASA's PR, is that
demeaning or not?
Several people here judged the article based on its link, without
bothering to read the article. People are going to be judging this
shuttle mission based on its appearance, and it doesn't appear that
there are any real scientific reasons to throw together an all-female
crew. Just as people derided the Glenn mission as a joke, they'll
deride an all-female mission as a PR stunt. Is that demeaning to the
women on board? "We'd prefer not to have our professionalism taken
lightly by becoming a sideshow," says Lt. Col. Pamela Melroy, a
shuttle pilot.

That's the point.
