Post-Doctoral or Associate Research Scientist Position - Vascular
Biology - Atherosclerosis Research

A full-time Post Doctoral or Associate Research Scientist position is
available immediately in the area of vascular biology. The position
is within the Columbia University laboratory of Dr. Ira Tabas which
utilizes cell-culture and induced mutant (transgenic and knockout)
mouse models to explore areas of vascular wall biology that are
pertinent to the development of atherosclerosis. Experimental
approaches include genetically altered mice including
macrophage-specific
The ideal candidate must:
·	Have advanced skills in recombinant DNA technology/plasmid
construction
·	Have experience in transient and stable transfections of mammalian
cells
·	Demonstrate depth of research experience in cellular and molecular
biology through publication
·	Communicate fluently in oral English
·	Have an interest in pursuing advanced level research in the area of
vascular biology related to development of atherosclerosis and
cholesterol.
·	Be committed to a minimum of two years on this research project

The laboratory is well-funded by the NIH for the next 5 years and
currently consists of a group of 5 excellent scientists and 3
technicians.

By joining the lab at Columbia you will learn a great deal from this
environment and be able to utilize the breadth of facilities at
Columbia and the lab including:

·	A well-funded lab by both the NIH and industry
·	Excellent laboratory space including their own tissue culture
facility.
·	Excellent core facilities are nearby, including a state-of-the-art
confocal and dual-photon fluorescence microscopy center.
·	An extremely rich environment in which to conduct research.
·	Cutting edge science will be at your fingertips--for example,
regarding the work being done with gene microarrays (there is a
world-class bioinformatics department to aid in these studies)
·	Outstanding researchers in the area of vascular biology, and a wide
variety of seminars, conferences, and outside advisory boards to
supplement the laboratory experience and provide valuable feedback for
the project leaders.
