We have had many difficulties in the past with people who seem unwilling to
allow useful academic discussions to continue without commercial or other
interruptions. Outrageous trash such as this will ultimately signal the demise
of the net as a useful tool for serious discussions. If this individual is
concerned about his/her (can't tell - the coward neglected to include a name)
first ammendment rights, he/she may feel free to disseminate this trash in an
appropriate forum - one dedicated to this kind of intolerance. The freedom of
expression is not synonymous with the freedom to disrupt any gathering at any
time for any reason. One should not have to tolerate shouting from the gallery
in the US Congress, jumping up and screaming a commercial announcement in the
middle of a church service, or disruptive behavior at a professional meeting.
The internet discussion groups represent (IMHO) an ongoing professional
conference, and each was established with a specific objective in mind. While
I am aware that my delete key works just fine, it would be a better world if
the content of our discussion groups could be regulated, and/or the internet
access priveleges of those who violate these trusts revoked.
