Funding for research projects

Re:	Funding for research projects
If you have not received a USDA competitive grant in the past 5 years,
are located at a small institution (enrollment <15,000), and your
institution is not one of the top 100 in the USA in terms of federal
grant funding, you are eligible to apply for a seed grant from the
USDA NRICGP Strengthening Program. You are also eligible if you have not
received a USDA Competitive grant in the past 5 years and your
institution is located in a so-called EPSCOR state, regardless of the
size or success of your institution.

If you are part of a state system, you will have to check with the
program directors to see if your campus can be considered independent
from the larger state institutions.

Seed grants award up to $50,000
total for two years. The strengthening program also awards
sabbatical and equipment grants. This is a great program. You can
find out more about it in the USDA-NRI 1966 Program Description.
You can e-mail llin at reeusda.gov or pbrayton at reeusda.gov for more
information. The postmark deadline for proposals is Feb. 20, 1996.
(Sorry I didn't think to post this sooner.) Hopefully the program
will be available in future years as well.
